Rough Cut Evaluation

Our rough cut (below) has been kept as closely possible to the original storyboard that we made. Along with it being the first time that we were able to edit and put together the choosen films from what we had filmed, it also allowed us to work as a team and put all four of our ideas together.

There are many positive aspects to the rough cut that we will decide to keep through to our final product. We decided that we liked in order in which we had put the scenes as they told and showed a narrative through a time in life for the main character (Ally). We also choose at the beginning that the shots of the main character would be kept in black and white to show the emotion of the depressed and heartbreaking state that he is in, and we also decided that we would put the reminising shots (memories) that we would have in colour with an effect on them to again bring more emotion to the scene. We also used shots of the main character going back to the same places where the two characters had once been as a couple, we used this to show division between the two. We also used a wide variety of shots that we felt was appropriate, such as the close up's and extreme close up's during the main character (Ally's) single shots whilst lip syncing, again with the inspiration coming from the The Script's video.

The use of ideas for the mise en scene came from the time of year that we were filming in (autum) and also the colours and images that we had used on the story board. Ally is wearing typical clothing that could be seen in an alternative-rock/folk video, wearing shirts and chinos with 'vans', in comparison to the likes of The Script it is not exactly what they wear but it is close enough to still stay within the genre and created a sense of reality whilst watching the video allowing the audience to believe the feelings and what is happening does happen in real life.

Some of the aspects after watching numerous times were not correct and decided that these would need changing before the final product. The syncing at the beginning with the guitar is off time and we decided this would not give the examiners the best first impression at the start of the video. Also we decided that some of the shots looked slightly 'wobbely' and decided to put a stabalizing effect on the shots as to make them more even, this would come largely into effect at the end of the video during the pond scene and hope this will make the video more fluent.

The editing process was long and took alot of attention to detail but with the choices that we made such as the black and white editing it made it very worthwhile to see the final product that we made. We have made a list of factors that we are going to change and edit and are excited to see how to final product comes out.
