Magazine Analysis

This is a magazine advertisment for Katy Perry's album 'One Of The Boys'. It has usual conventions that you would expect to see when looking at the advertisment including; 'who' being Katy Perry, 'what' what the album is called, 'when' it will be released being the 22nd of September and 'where' it also has Katy Perry's website at the bottom.

A few criticisms of the advertisment include; it is very hard to be able to see the website at the bottom of the advertisment. You would expect too see this slighly larger because if you were to be interested in the artist, the website can help to allow you to look for other similar songs and albums that the audience may be interested in, and also would allow you to see tour and festival dates. Another criticism would be the light blue font underneath the artists names 'Katy Perry' which reads 'One Of The Boys', as this is infact the album's name and one of the most important piece of information on the advertisement. You would expect this to be bigger and clearer, and will take this into account when making our own magazine advertisment.

The image and and genre is clear from the advertisment which you can tell is pop. There is a full size picture of the artist down the left hand side which makes it clear that this who you will be listening to. Also with showing her legs and clevage, it is clear to see that the advertisment company for Katy Perry are trying to use sexualisation to help premote and get her fired into the music scene. With no wild colours in the background it doesn't draw your attention away from what is important in the advertisment and would like to keep this ideas in mind whilst doing our own.
